Open Positions for Postdoc Researchers in Formal Methods and Quantum Computing

Announced in November 2024. We are looking for passionate researchers to tackle foundational and applied challenges in formal methods and quantum computing.

The Institute of Information Science, Academia Sinica in Taipei, Taiwan, invites applications for postdoctoral researcher positions under the supervision of Prof. Yu-Fang Chen. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage in fundamental research at the intersection of formal methods and quantum computing within Taiwan’s leading research institution.

• Formal Methods Focus: Those with a strong background in formal methods and a keen interest in quantum computing.
• Quantum Computing Focus: Those with a solid foundation in quantum computing who are eager to explore how formal methods can advance the field.

The position offers significant opportunities for academic growth, collaboration, and exposure to cutting-edge real-world applications. The candidate will focus on developing formal techniques for analyzing and verifying quantum programs. The duration of the job can be up to five years.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field.
• Proven research expertise in formal methods or physics.
• A strong publication record in top-tier conferences or journals.
• Effective communication skills in English, both written and oral.

Salary and Benefits

• Monthly Salary: Ranging from 60,000 to 110,000 NTD per month, and 13.5 months per year (approximately 25,110–46,0351 USD or 23,490-43,065 EUR per year), depending on qualifications and experience.
• Benefits: Comprehensive social benefits comparable to international standards, including health insurance and relocation support.

Living in Taiwan

Taiwan offers an excellent quality of life, with a low cost of living compared to many other developed countries. Taipei is known for its convenience, safety, and vibrant mix of modernity and cultural heritage.

• Housing:
  • A studio apartment close to Academia Sinica (30m²): ~NTD 15,000–20,000/month.
  • A two-bedroom apartment (40m²): ~NTD 25,000–35,000/month.
• Cost of Living:
  • A meal at a local restaurant: ~NTD 80–150.
  • Public transportation (e.g., MRT, buses): ~NTD 20–50 per ride.
  • Utilities (electricity, water, internet) for an apartment: ~NTD 3,000–5,000/month.
  • Tax is between 3% to 6% of the total income for this salary level.
